How to create an exam from a PDF
Start with a text-based PDF of material your class studied. Generate a draft, review it, and only then share it with students.
Before you upload
Sign in to your teacher account and open the new-exam workflow. Check that you can select and copy text from the PDF. Image-only pages may need text recognition outside Examonkey.
Generate a focused draft
Upload the PDF through the AI exam form. Choose the multiple-choice and open-question counts, and check that the requested difficulty counts add up to the total. Submit the request and return to the exam list while generation runs.
Check the questions against your material
Open the draft when it is ready. Verify factual accuracy, expected answers, points, and coverage. For example, if your source teaches photosynthesis, remove a generated question that requires an untaught biochemical pathway. This is an illustrative teaching example.
Configure and share
Set the exam controls and publish the reviewed exam. Copy the student link from the exam list. Ask students to keep their score code.
If the draft is unusable
Check that the source contains readable text and enough relevant material. Improve the source and question request rather than publishing questions you have not verified.
